Gospel Principles Lesson #10

In preparation for my Sunday School class, I'd like to capture a few thoughts for any one and everyone to think about, especially those in the Gospel Principles class in the Garfield First Ward of the Rigby South Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  The lesson on June 3rd, 2012 will be lesson #10 and can be found at the following link:
https://www.lds.org/manual/gospel-principles/chapter-10-scriptures?lang=eng

To prepare, ask yourselves the following questions
  • What do the scriptures mean to me?
  • What do I gain from reading the scriptures?
  • What is the difference between reading and studying the scriptures?
    • Is one method better than the other?
  • What does the LDS church accept as the canonized (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/canon?s=t) scriptures?
  • How can I improve my daily scripture study?  If scripture study is not a daily event for me, how can I make the time to do it daily?
  • Can you think of any prophecies in the Bible of the Book of Mormon?
    • Ezekiel 37:16-17
    • Isaiah 29:11-14
    • John 10:16
    • Any others?

Thanks for your participation in class!!

A trip down (dutch oven) memory lane

As mentioned on Facebook, Heidi and I are trying to cook in the dutch oven every Sunday, or at least every weekend.  This last week the kids and I were sick all week, and the weather this weekend was horrible!  This evening we all felt pretty good, and the rain stopped long enough to get an oven put together and throw it on the coals.  I remember one of the first dutch oven dished I had was lasagna.  It was excellent!  I thought we could do something similar.  This is the recipe we tried.

Dutch Oven Lasagna

1-1/2 lb. lean ground beef
23 oz spaghetti sauce
9 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
3 eggs
2-1/4 cup cottage or ricotta cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
13 lasagna noodles
1-1/2 tsp oregano
1 1/4 cup hot water
Preheat the Dutch oven and brown the ground beef. When done, remove the beef to a large mixing bowl. Add the spaghetti sauce to the beef and mix well. In another bowl, add the cottage or ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese (reserve a few ounces for later), eggs, and oregano, and mix well.
Now create lasagna layers in the Dutch oven in the following order: Break up four lasagna noodles into the bottom of the oven. Spread about 1/3 of the meat mixture over the noodles. Spread 1/2 of the cheese mixture over the meat mixture. Break up five noodles and place over the top of the preceding mixtures. Spread 1/2 of the remaining meat mixture over the noodles. Spread the remaining cheese mixture over the meat mixture. Break up the remaining noodles and place over the cheese mixture. Spread the remaining meat mixture over the noodles.
Pour the hot water all around the edges of the oven. Place the lid on the oven and bake one hour or until done. Check frequently.
This recipe works well with charcoal (12 briquettes on bottom and 12 on top).

My Review:
I didn't like this recipe.  It was bland, unattractive, and just plain old didn't taste good.  In its defense, we did make a few substitutions.  We didn't have enough mozzarella cheese, so we used some cheddar.  Over all, it just needs a bit more spice!  Probably won't be using this recipe again, at least in this form.  We may try it again with a few variations.

what a woman...

What would you expect your wife to do when it snows 6 inches, freezing temperatures, wind howling, miserable ? Maybe make some hot cocoa and cuddle up under a blanket to stay warm? Who would have thunk I could have married such an excellent woman. She shoveled the whole driveway, all the way out to the road!

Toys

So, as you may gather from my last post, I graduated once. along with my graduation came a job. along with the job came my new toys and new experiences. this post is dedicated to them...
This bike is how I consoled myself after selling my 1200 cc cruiser. I nearly cried! But, this bike is a good fill in. Its a 2005 KLR650. I know, its a kawasaki. you gotta try something new everynow and then eh?
This is my new truck, as of today. I went to an auction looking at a chevy and came back with a ford. Its a 97 F150 4x4 with the third door. Don;t even know whats it worth, and I'm kinda afraid to look cause I don't want to find out I got took, but I like it so far.
This is the most amazing girl in the world. She took me to the bahamas last week and this is at the zoo we went too. It was an amazing trip, but not as amazing as she is. She's pretty much perfect! She's hot, smart, has a great personality and she likes me! What else could I ask for!

Oh yah!!!

...and I graduated!!!

My quaterly update

well... where to start. I took the job at INL. I am the newest Radioassay engineer in idaho! well, maybe not anymore, but I was 7 weeks ago! Its been a good job so far. still lots of training to do. thats the reason I am out here in Connecticut right now with my two compadres. Bob, Doug and myself have been here since monday doing training on a piece of equipment that we have but don't know how to use. Its been fun! neither are members, so we've spent most nights eating dinner and they drink thy're beer. tonight we ate at the bar in the hotel and I was able to talk to a man from boston about the church. He claims I'm the 2nd member he's ever met. I guess theres something about a 2o something year old sitting at a bar that drinks 6 waters! Anywho, it was a good chat. Mission work is pretty cool. The one feller I work with has never said muh about the church. He's originally from IF and grew up around mormons, but has never mentioned it to me. the other feller is from washington and loves how he can put the missionaries to work and they don't even charge him! They're both good fellers. Anywho, Still loving heidi. She'sa darn good girl!! Sometimes I wonder why I deserve her! She woke up at 3:30 am and made me biscuits and gravy for breakfast valentines morning before I left for work. Isn't that great! My favorite!! Anywho, shes currently teachcing at the college and loves it. she recently applied for a full time job starting in the fall. She's got a few travel plans already for the summer. She's my favorite, but my motorbike life is my second favorite. I have been shopping around pretty heavily for a Dual sport, preferrably 650 or bigger. my search took me to boise last weekend, but I was severly disappointed. Anyone, let me know if you ever see one for sale for a reasonable price! The litlebike that I rebuilt late last year is running like a champ! Well, its the middle of winter, so I haavn't started it for a while, but I'm sure that it will run like a champ! Anywho, thats about it for me! Tango Pethos Buenos
